Most newly promoted leaders fail in their first year.
Research from CEB (now Gartner) indicates that as many as 60 percent of new managers underperform or fail with their first two years.
Both frontline and newly promoted leaders are not receiving the training in key areas they need to succeed – including communication skills, new role expectations and interpersonal skills. Leadership transition already carries a high-level of uncertainty. A leader’s action or inaction significantly influences the course of a company, for better or worse. Yet in spite of these high stakes, leaders are usually underprepared for – and under supported – in leadership skills. It is critical that companies help frontline and new leaders understand their role and responsibilities when it comes to leading people.
